Understanding hunting seasons and regulations

Seasons are calendars plus rules. This site will never replace your state wildlife agency. Use these pages to plan — then verify dates, bag limits, legal methods, and tagging requirements for your unit every year.

How to use regulations (without guessing)

  • Find the official regs for your state / province — PDF or app from the agency, not a forum screenshot
  • Confirm species, zone/unit, weapon, and dates (they change)
  • Check blaze, hunter ed, license types, and tagging / reporting rules
  • Screenshot or bookmark the pages you relied on the morning you hunt
  • When in doubt, call the agency or do not hunt that scenario

A simple season framework

  • Pre-season: scout, fix gear, confirm access and licenses (checklist)
  • In-season: hunt the conditions you have — wind, pressure, weather (decision notes)
  • Late / closing: pressure rises; shorten sits that educate, lean on better access plans
  • Post-season: notes, cam review, meat care, what to change next year

Species calendars differ on purpose

  • Deer: often archery / gun / muzzleloader windows — do not mix weapon rules
  • Squirrel: longer windows in many places; still check county and method notes
  • Duck: frameworks, splits, and zone dates are easy to get wrong — double-check every season

Disclaimer: Nothing here is legal advice or an official regulation summary. Laws change. You are responsible for knowing the current rules where you hunt.
